A Home for Everyone!

URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp is a camp where everyone feels at home. We strive to make every camper’s experience nurturing and fulfilling, and we do so by making sure that every child feels welcomed and supported.

What happens at Jacobs Camp?

A summer at Jacobs Camp is truly a life-changing experience. From the endlessly engaging days spent on the sports fields, in the art room, on the tower or at the lake, to the nightly evening program adventures, campers never stop having fun! Camp is a place where kids can put aside the outside world drama, disconnect from their fast-paced lives at home and just be kids! When you entrust your children to us, they will experience what it is like to live in an immersive Jewish community. This complete immersion allows children to see the world through a Jewish lens, giving them a fuller appreciation of the richness of Judaism and strengthening their Jewish identities along the way. Located in the Deep South where the Jewish population is scarce, we form an incredibly special, close-knit community that fosters lifelong friendships each and every summer.

What if my family isn’t very involved in Jewish life?

Campers come to us from a variety of Jewish backgrounds. Some children come from families who are very involved in their synagogues attending Shabbat services regularly, and some do not.  Some children attend Religious School only once a month. We help our campers learn what they don’t know, and embrace what they do. Living in an immersive Jewish community offers all of our campers the opportunity to strengthen their Jewish identities while learning more about Judaism.

Jacobs Camp is a welcoming community for interfaith families who have made Jewish choices for their children, including Jewish overnight camp. We welcome children from a variety of backgrounds, and know they will quickly become connected members to our Jacobs Camp family.

I Don't Know If I Can Afford Camp...

Did you know that there may be a grant available to help you cover the cost of camp? Along with first-time camper grants, there are a variety of other sources.  See what options for summer camp are available.

What if my camper needs extra support while at camp?

Jacobs Camp is a unique community – our size allows us to provide individualized care and support for each and every child. In addition to your child’s counselors and unit head, we have inclusion staff on-site all summer to work with campers who may need extra support. Before campers arrive in the summer, we ask parents to complete a detailed Camper Information Questionnaire, which gives us great insight about your child – everything from the activities they are most excited for to the things that make them afraid. The information from this questionnaire allows our staff to prepare for each child individually before he or she arrives. We ask that parents are as detailed as possible – the more you can tell us before Opening Day, the better our staff will be able to support your camper! If you anticipate your child may need extra support from our staff, we ask that you contact Anna at aherman@urj.org to schedule time to discuss your child’s specific needs. As necessary, our Camper Care Team will be in touch with parents leading up to and throughout the summer to discuss any challenges he or she may experience during the summer.
