Week #3: We’re Busy, Happy, and Having the Best Time Ever!

Hi, y’all!

I can hardly believe another week has come and gone at camp! The time is flying, but everyone – campers, counselors, and staff – is having the best summer ever! Fun, adventure, and terrific camp activities fill the days; talent shows, bonfires for s’mores, and bunk nights fill the evenings. We’re making the most of our time together as a sacred community, enjoying every minute, and truly treasuring the joy of being home for the summer. Check out this video of some of this week’s fun and keep reading for more details!

This past Sunday we welcomed our Chalutzim campers home! Even though they’ll be here through the end of July, they wasted no time getting busy with scavenger hunts and programming with Rabbi Barry Block, camp’s faculty dean.

Just as the Chalutzim campers showed up, Maskilim headed off on a day trip to Jackson for a first-time visit to the Mississippi Children’s Museum and Indian Lanes. Everyone had a great time exploring the museum, bowling, playing arcade games, and picnicking with Raising Cane’s chicken for dinner. Maskilim also had bunk night this week, which counselors planned for their own cabins. Highlights included Joshua Posner getting a makeover and a few Gesher gentlemen offering their services in a fashion show. The boys had true bonding experiences and a good time was had by all!

Talmidim campers also enjoyed bunk night planned by their counselors this week. Some bunks cooked food while others kidnapped the camp dogs, but no matter what they did, Talmidim’s bunk night was lots of fun and a huge success.

On Wednesday, Garin’s fifth graders – the oldest campers in their unit — had a night out at Pump it Up, where everyone played in the huge inflatable indoor playground before heading to Cici’s Pizza for dinner. What a treat and what a special evening!

This week campers also enjoyed seeing their counselors perform and show off their (sometimes) hidden talents during the annual staff talent show! Some of the acts have been part of the show for generations and as always, the evening including lots of singing, dancing (by the Power Rangers!), and the classic dialogue, “Who’s on First?”

Of course, the most exciting highlight of the week by far was Maccabiah, our all-camp color war! Four different teams – Red (Adom), Blue (Kachol), Green (Yarok), and Yellow (Tzahov) – competed in all kinds of events, including Hagigah, the arts competition, an egg drop, dancing, Jewpardy, and the all-camp relay. And the winner was….Kachol! Go Blue!!

We’re all having the time of our lives and I’m glad you’re checking in here on our site. Next week, we’ll celebrate Independence Day on July 3rd with a huge AmericaFest and fireworks before many campers head home on the 4th. In the meantime, everyone’s looking forward to savoring what will be for some, the last camp Shabbat of the summer – including services, dinner (with a delicious cobbler for dessert!), song session, and Israeli dancing — and to the freedom it will offer us to relax and enjoy the day tomorrow. Shabbat shalom, y’all!

Love,

Anna
