Shabbat Shalom, y’all!

It is so hard to believe that this is our last Shabbat of the summer! This week was a full one for our whole community, as we focused on Musar Avodah (work ethic) and Yoshrah (integrity). This week has really shown exactly how strong our community is! Throughout camp we always try to be our best selves and promote positive work ethic and high moral standards. What better way to promote these values than a great competition of Maccabiah?! Even though we spent the first half of the week divided, we all came back together as one and showed the true Jacobs Spirit! As we move into our last week of the summer, my heart is full.

On Sunday, we surprised camp and announced that Maccabiah was here! All of the campers were sorted into their houses for a Harry Potter themed competition. For two days, campers had jam-packed schedules filled with art competitions, Quidditch, Jewpardy, Wizarding Chess, pool games, and a thrilling all camp derby. After the competition, everyone was proud of their team, but there could only be one winner. Yarok (the Green Team) came out on top!

Following Maccabiah, Garin had a fantastic remaining rest of the week! They found their inner scientists and demonstrated some fascinating experiments with our STEM department. We also had a very special treat for our fifth graders in Garin this week. They celebrated Garin Graduation and went on their first ever day trip to Pump It Up in Jackson!

Maskilim had so much fun celebrating bunk night and campouts this week! They showed off their agility during their sports program, and eventually got to “wear clothes they never want to see again” during their middle school themed Messy Night! Their chugim and peulot this week were especially fun with archery, Broadway performances, and cooking. Our campers make the best challah in Mississippi!

Talmidim’s week was full as well! One of our wonderful Talmidim campers became Bat Mitzvah last Shabbat and her whole unit celebrated with love, joy, and laser tag! Our chugim and peulot for Talmidm were full of new and exciting activities, such as Defeating the Riddler and Magical Collage Painting. Providing our campers with new and exciting activities has been so fantastic to watch and plan. Talmidim also got to show their sea legs in a “The Office” themed pool program!

Talmidim and Chalutzim have been spending as much time as possible together! They demonstrated all their amazing talents in a joint Talent Show and enjoyed an Electric Dance Music Concert Messy Night!

Chalutzim had a very busy week! They went on their highly anticipated day trip to Geyser Falls waterpark and had Take a Chalutz to Work Day! The day trip was the last time our oldest campers will enter the gates as campers, so it was incredibly emotional for everyone. It was truly a special memory that I’m sure nobody will forget. Take a Chalutz to Work Day was a special time for our Chalutzim campers to learn what it’s like to be on staff! All the campers loved shadowing their respective staff members and learning all about what camp jobs have to offer!

I know that this summer has truly been the summer of a lifetime for all of our campers, staff members, and faculty too! I can’t wait to watch our kids grow throughout the year and see what amazing things next summer has in store!

Love,

Anna
