Shabbat Shalom Jacobs Camp Families!

This week has been packed with fun; so much has happened that it’s hard to believe it has only been a week! Every day, our family continues to grow stronger, and we are trying not to think about how there are only a few days of camp left.  We are treasuring each and every moment together and can’t wait to see what else we can experience as a Jacobs Camp family.  This week we learned about Musar Avodah, work ethic and discussed role models that set examples of how to work hard. At Jacobs, we learn how to work hard and be our best selves in many different ways and situations, here at camp and back at home.

On Monday morning, we started Star Wars Maccabiah—our all-camp color war! Camp was divided into four colors that competed in a series of events over the course of two very full days! We had our arts showcase, Hagigah, where campers performed interpretive dances, showed off their team flags, decorated a few lucky Gariners and some delicious cakes, and sang their own team songs! The next day, we had our all-camp relay race starting at the gate and stretching all the way to the lower athletic field! In the end, Kahol (the Blue Team), celebrated victory!

After Maccabiah, we came together as a strong kehillah (Community), and celebrated Israel Night led by wonderful Israeli staff members! We learned all about Israel, made our own pita, shopped in the Shuk, and enjoyed some Israeli dancing!  We are lucky to have Mishlachat who can share their culture with us.

The second half of the week was just as fun! Our Gariners had so much fun during their Chugim and Peulot! They loved doing science experiments in Wacky Science, dancing with our dance specialist, and playing Improv games in performing arts. The boys and girls both had campouts and bunk nights, where they bonded with their cabin mates and counselors, and they got really messy when they had Messy Night!

Maskilim also had a full week! They also slept underneath the stars and bonded with cabinmates during bunk night.  Additionally, they were the stars of their own Reality TV show!  During their Chugim and Peulot, they rode bikes, did some gymnastics, and played soccer. Overall, Maskilim has had a jam-packed, fantastic week!

Talmidim also got to bond as a cabin during bunk night!  We also got to watch our campers show off their talents in the Talmidim Talent Show. It’s incredible how much confidence our campers have in sharing their talents with this community! This week, Talmidim switched into new minors including ultimate frisbee, climbing, fitness, biking, and arts.  We are thrilled that our Talmidim campers get to choose specific areas to focus on throughout the summer

Sunday morning, our Chalutzim campers arrived home for the summer; we have been anticipating their arrival, and they are already having the summer of a lifetime! Since they arrived, they learned to make sushi, discovered their Jewish Identity with our camp Faculty, and have already become a very close-knit, cohesive team!

I can’t believe this is already our last Shabbat of first session. I know that our campers have had an amazing summer, and they can’t wait to see what other surprises we have for them in the next few days!

On a final note, Adam Orlansky, one of our Assistant Directors since 2015, will be moving to New York after this summer to pursue a career in the sports world. He is an integral part of our community, and we want to thank him for his love and commitment to our camp.  We are thrilled to launch him into the next chapter of his life! We love you and will miss you so much, Adam O!

Love,

Anna
