“Recycled Pizza” Garin Art Project 2016

Dear Jacobs Camp Families,

My name is Erin Doherty, and I am so excited to return to camp this summer as the Creative Arts Department Head! I had such a great experience working with our amazing campers as the Visual Arts Senior Specialist last summer. I brought parts of my art making processes to the Jacobs Camp art room by encouraging mixed media and collage elements in the campers’ work. As we gear up for Summer 2017, I need your help!

I love incorporating recycled materials into art projects to not only help reduce waste, but to make the art projects we create more unique! This summer we will be doing a lot of paper mache, soft sculpture, weaving, ceramics, and collaging projects. To have the best array of collaging materials, I need the following supplies:

  • Old magazines
  • Old news papers
  • Old cotton sheets (Patterned ones are cool too but, white sheets we can dye to whatever color fabric we need!)
  • Old clothing (Cool patterns that pop like stripes, plaid, gingham, polka dots, floral, houndstooth, and paisley are great! Solid bright colors are great too! Please don’t bring graphic T-shirts or really thick materials like denim.)
  • Old cookie cutters
  • Bottle caps and wine corks

If you have any of these materials laying around the house, please bring them with you on opening day! They will be put to great use and help your kids create amazing art projects!

Thank you so much for helping to make this summer’s art program the best one yet!
