Reservations, Deposits, and Fees

1. Do you have cell phone reception?
Most people are able to make and receive cell phone calls while on the retreat center grounds. Obviously, service varies depending on your particular carrier.

2. Do you have Wi-Fi?
Free Wi-Fi is available in the community buildings, and in the adult housing area. Your group leader will be given the wireless password at the start of your event.

3. How do I get to and from the retreat center?
Retreat attendees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the retreat center.

Driving? We have ample parking available on site for all of your guests' vehicles.

Charter Buses? Charter buses have no problem navigating the road to camp, or maneuvering around camp. If your buses will be staying overnight, let us know so we can suggest an appropriate place for it to be parked.

Traveling by Commercial Bus or Rail? Greyhound buses and Amtrak trains have regular service in and out of Union Station in Downtown Jackson. You will have to arrange your own transportation from the station to the retreat center.

Flying by Commercial Carrier? Our closest airport is the Jackson-Evers International Airport (JAN), approximately 45 minutes away. Jackson is served by most major airlines: American, Delta, Southwest, United, & US Airways. You will want to either rent a car at the airport, or pre-arrange pickup with a transportation service. Taxi cabs are very hard to come by, and most will not make the trip to our site in Utica.

Flying by Private Plane? The closest general aviation field to our site is John Bell Williams Airport in Raymond, MS.

4. Is a lot of walking involved?
While the Retreat Center at Jacobs Camp is situated on 278 acres, the vast majority of our housing and recreational facilities are in close proximity to each other, with a limited number of inclines here and there. We do hope you will take advantage of the acres of open spaces and woodlands, and our hiking trails, during your stay.

5. What about health care?
Groups are responsible for their own medical care.

It is unlikely that there will be a health-related problem during a Camp event, but the possibility exists. The chances increase when bringing children to the Camp. It is a very good idea for large, student-oriented groups to bring a registered nurse to the Camp with them.

Emergencies will be handled by the Group's leaders in consultation with Cmap Staff. Local ambulance service is available, and the nearest hospital is just 30 minutes away.

It is an absolute necessity to bring Medical Release Forms for all participants under the age of 18 who will not be accompanied by their parents or guardians. No hospital will treat a minor, even in an emergency, without a signed consent form. It is also advisable to have information on hand about allergies to medications and foods, and emergency contact phone numbers.

6. What do I need to bring?
We recommend that you bring:

  • Comfortable clothing and walking shoes.
  • Layered clothing will served you will in our variable climate.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottles.
  • Toiletries and medications you will need.

In case you forget something, there is both a dollar store and a grocery store about 10 minutes driving time away; and a Wal-Mart about 30 minutes away.

7. What does the retreat center provide?
If you are staying in our adult accommodations, we will provide all bedding, linens, and towels. We also provide soap in each of the bathrooms.

If you are staying in one of our dormitory-style cabins, you will need to bring your own bedding, linens, and towels.

8. What if members of our group have special needs?
If you have group participants with any mobility needs, please let us know in advance so we can plan ahead for your stay. All of our program facilities are fully-accessible, and all of the walkways around the grounds are paved. Some of our adult double-occupancy rooms are fully-accessible, as are all of our dormitory-style cabins.

If members of your group have special dietary needs that you think will not be accommodated by our general menu, please communicate your needs to us so we can work with you to come up with the best solution. We are able to work with most types of food allergies. In extreme cases you may need to bring your own food; if this is the case, we will provide a refrigerator for storage.

9. What type of lodging is available?
Our facility has a mix of double-occupancy rooms - some with private baths and some with shared baths - and dormitory-style group cabins. More...

10. Where can I find directions to the retreat center?
Maps and driving directions to our facility. The page also has tourism links to several nearby communities and sites.

11. Where can we park our vehicles?
The camp has a large parking lot behind the Office, in close proximity to the Dining Hall and Education Center. There is also limited parking adjacent to all of our housing facilities.

Group participants are strongly discouraged from driving around camp during events - enjoy the outdoors! Visitors are reminded that the Camp Speed Limit is 5 MPH.
