Your Jacobs Camp “Unpacking” List

Leading up to the summer, one of the most important things we send to our parents is the camp packing list. Now that the session is nearly over, we wanted to provide you with this “unpacking list,” to help you encourage your camper to “unpack” the wonderful experience they’ve had at HSJ and help you get a sense of what they experienced here at camp!

The end of the summer can bring many mixed emotions for campers. While they are so happy to be back with their families, they also miss their friends, counselors, and life at camp.

We hope asking some of these questions will help you see a bit of what camp is like through your child’s eyes:

  1. What was your favorite thing to eat in the dining hall? Did you try any new foods?
  2. What is your favorite song from song session? Can you sing it?  Does it have any fun hand motions or dance moves?
  3. What was the funniest thing your counselors did during the summer?
  4. What was the best/funniest/weirdest/most interesting day on your cabin’s calendar?
  5. What did you do on Shabbat that was different from the rest of the week?
  6. Tell me about your favorite camp friends! Where do they live?
  7. What is something new you learned this summer?
  8. Did you or anyone in your cabin perform in the dining hall?
  9. Did you try climbing the tower, or do the blob, the obstacle course or the wet willy?
  10. Which Chugim did you choose?
  11. What do the chickens do all day at camp?
  12. What was your favorite evening program?
  13. What was the theme of your bunk night?
  14. What team were you on for Maccabiah?
  15. What are you looking forward to most for next year?
